“I am originally from Brownsburg, Indiana and IU was a place I’d like to think was always in my mind for college. The ballet department within the Jacobs School is so prestigious and well renowned that I knew I wanted to come here. Along with that, the year I was joining, some of the most inspiring members of the Ballet community that I looked up to were coming in as faculty so that helped seal the deal for me. To be able to work with and learn from these artists was a big part of my decision. Along with that, I also had been coming to IU for summer programs during high school, so it was comforting to know a few faculty members within the department before committing to come here for college.
I started ballet when I was 6 years old, and with my mom being a dancer, it was always something I knew I wanted to do. Ballet does require a huge time commitment but because of the love I have for the art form, the time put in is beyond worth it. I love the ability to express myself through movement and I’ve been lucky to have constant support from the people around me with pursuing my passion. There have been challenges and injuries I have faced due to the strenuous nature of our practice, but if I had to leave everyone with one thing it would be to never give up! No matter what other people tell you, you need to keep pushing forward to live your dream and keep on shining."
